The Sound of Silence

It's hard to explain silence to anybody who doesn't appreciate it. Is it because they don't like it or because they don't understand it? Even in the convent, among religious who profess to know it, silence is a precious commodity. There are times when you just want to be still, to be with your thoughts, to enjoy the sound of the breeze, to listen to the quiet within me. But how many times I hear disapproving remarks or notice disapproving looks. Don't you understand? I just need to be alone...

  1. I can totally relate Sister, although my little noisy people do go to bed early so I do get some silence occasionally. The rest of the day is terribly noisy... sometimes I'm the one adding to it.

I like wait Catherine Doherty from Madonna House says about little pools of silence in your day and how to take advantage of them. It's probably even more essential in religious life. God bless you.

  2. It is exactly the same for me.
I have a great need for silence. At least 20 minutes a day, but it's hard to find these minutes.

No one can understand that around me.

    It's vital for me...
