Saint Teresa of the Andes

July 13th is the feast of a celebrated young Carmelite, Saint Teresa of Jesus of the Andes. This young Chilean spent only less than a year in Carmel and died at the age of 19. Her story was one of intense love of God which gave her short life on earth such fullness and depth that was fully realized when she entered her beloved Carmel. She was beatified by Pope John Paul II on April 3, 1987 at Santiago, Chile and was proposed as a model for young people. She is the first Chilean and the first member of the Teresian Carmel in Latin America to be beatified and later canonized.
