Pope to Italian bishops: ‘We must bring the truth of God back into the world’
This is a statement which appeals to me because it is a re-echoing of Carmel's prophetic vocation. The prophetic vocation is a universal call, it is for every baptized person, not just Carmelites. It is exactly as our Holy Father articulated, "to bring Christ to the world which has forgotten him." Isn't this a sad case? When someone we love is neglected or forgotten, it breaks our hearts. We feel the insult and the pain of loneliness and abandonment. God is athirst for our love. On the Cross in Calvary, he muttered, "I thirst!" He is thirsting for our love, for our attention, for our hearts. But before we can bring him to the world, we must first have him. How can we give something we do not have? The Holy Father's call is also a call to us, we must return to God, we must be converted again! And then, only then, can we turn around and bring him out to the world which is empty and starving for Him.
